hcg levels rising slowly w/ poor u/s results -- MISDIAGNOSED

Postby Kat318 » Thu Aug 24, 2006 1:39 pm

I am so sad and upset as I just miscarried in January. This one started out so much better, but the doctor told me today that this pregnancy is probably not viable, either.

LMP 7/15
hcg on 8/10= 102
hcg on 8/14= 694 (hooray)
hcg on 8/21= 10,838 (hooray)
hcg on 8/23- 12,000 :-(

Also, ultrasound on 8/21 (with the 10,838 hcg levels showed nothing)
ultrasound today (8/24 with levels of 12,000) showed sac, but nothing else.

Doctor is concerned about the lack of fetal pole and heartbeat today (as well as Monday) and the slow rise in hcg between Monday and Wednesday.

Is there any chance that this pregnancy will last?????

The fact that there was growth in between your two u/s is good. Are you scheduled for another one?

It would have been nice to see more of a rise with your numbers, but you really can't tell on numbers alone if a pregnancy is viable.

You're still early in your pregnancy - hang in there hon :)O

I am just hoping upon hope. I have another u/s scheduled for next Wednesday. The doc seemed pretty concerned about the lack of structures seen in the ultrasound. He said at these levels of hcg 95% of women see a baby- not just a sac. He is also concerned about the non doubling of my levels. I am just scared to death. I am also 42 with other GYN problems. This may be my last chance :-(

Hang in there, my levels were well over 100,000 and the sac was really big before we saw my baby at nine weeks.

((((hugs)))) and I do hope you receive the best of news.

Hi Kat318,
I am in the same boat that you're in. My LMP was 7/14 and here are my hcg levels.

Aug 14 = 445.3
Aug 16 = 858.8
Aug 18 = 1959.6
Aug 20 = 4013.8
Aug 22 = 5067 :(
Aug 24 = 8958.6

I also had a progesterone test on Aug 23 and it was 10.4 so I demanded to be put on progesterone supplements. I also had an ultrasound done on Aug 23 and I was measuring 5W2D which is correct because my cycles last between 31-32 days. At the ultrasound we saw a gestational sac and a yolk sac. The technician was positive and told me that she saw everything that she is supposed to see at this point in the pregnancy. My DH and I were thrilled until we got the hcg levels.

My doctor is concerned about my hcg levels from Aug 22 and has scheduled me for another ultrasound on Aug 28th. So I'm praying that I'll see some growth but it will only be 5 days since my last ultrasound and I'm not going to get too upset if they don't see a E> because some don't see one until week 7 of pregnancy. So for me it is a wait and see game.

I'll be thinking of you and I'm wishing you the best of luck. Stay positive and try not to get too upset right now. I know this is tough to do (remember I'm going through this too) but worrying and stressing out about the unknown is only going to do harm to you and the baby. My mom told me you cannot worry about what you cannot control and I believe that this is out of my hands and if it is meant to be than it will be.

Best of luck,
Krissy

Your levels all are better than mine, and my doc said my pregnancy isn't viable. I mean yours are MUCH MUCH better than mine. My last hcg pull was Sunday and it was only 1380 and the sac was a quarter the size it should have been for 6 weeks.

I say hang in there. My LMP was 7/19 so we're about at the same point. Some docs say they can see a fetal structure at 6 weeks but others say that it might be a few days after that.

Just to share some hope...
I went for an ultrasound yesteday, and we found baby, and he has a good, strong heartbeat for 6 weeks- 108 bpm. My surprised doctor says that everything looks great and I have a very low chance of miscarriage at this point. Good luck to all!!!

I definitey agree. This does deserve misdiagnosed status.

Congratulations and use those supplements. Studies show they can really make a difference.

Yay!

Hi,

I just wanted to say YAY that you found baby.

And to encourage you and others: when we couldn't find my baby, my hcg was 49,000. He went full term and is a healthy little man.

Also, I just met a gal who couldn't find her baby on u/s until 12 weeks! Her daughter is here!

Love,
Suzanne
