misdiagnosed in er

Postby Alainasmom » Sat Oct 16, 2010 8:50 am

I took about 6 hpt around 2/19- 2/20 2010 and while some were very faint, I also had a few that were clearly positives! I started bleeding 2/24 and went to the ER and had hcg levels checked and they said they were very low and possible miscarriage after a vaginal us and no gestational sac..they told me to follow up with a doc in 2 days but me being anxious and very impatient and still heavily bleeding i went back to the ER on 2/26 and my levels were still low. I went home with my head held low thinking I had def lost the baby at 2 weeks. I went back on march 1st and they confirmed I did have a miscarriage. I still felt pregnant and I didnt want to lose hope but i did! A few weeks passed and I still had pregnancy symptoms so I took more hpt on march 25 that came back clearly positive within seconds! I made an appt and they said that i was indeed pregnant about 4 weeks and I probably did have a miscarriage but got pregnant again right after..which the 4 weeks goes back to feb 22-26. I made a follow appt for a us on April fools and they confirmed I was 5 weeks and 3 days pregnant..I am now happy to say that I am 34 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby girl! But I still feel as if I bever had a mc and at 33weeks doctor said she is measuring 35 weeks big..could the ER be wrong and I really be 36 (to date) weeks along??? I still have hope but I do not want to get my hopes up! I go back for a sonogram thuursday oct 21st..so I guess I will know the truth then...please reply what yal think!

Since ultrasound dating is often off during the first trimester, I'd say it is a good possibility you never lost the pregnancy. Hard to know for sure though because I've talked to women who miscarried and conceived very soon thereafter.

Let us know what you learn.

I also think this baby is the baby that had you rushing to the ER so early.
It might have been very early bleeding and your levels might have been low for numerous reasons or you were earlier than you thought.

You didn't say how far you were along when you first visited the ER with the bleeding and when they did the scan, which might explain why they couldn't see anything.

Congratulations though on your little girl ;)

I too believe that this is the same pregnancy..whether I lost the baby or not or if this is the same pregnancy, it is eating me up to know. She was measuring 35 weeks at 33 weeks, which would make perfect since! And the ER told me I was like 1 week along. I'm so looking forward to going to the doctor this Thursday..all though I'm almost sure that I am 36 weeks and not 34..and I believe I've gotten my hopes up for it:( Thank you both for your reply and I look forward to hearing from yal again! I will post an update Thursday!

I don't blame you. I'd want to know as well. I know because of my tilted uterus, my due date was pushed back by two weeks with my first. I actually ended up in labor a few days before that due date and he showed every indication of being overdue. He was in the NICU and the nurses said he looked like I had him about two weeks after the due date. Due dates are not accurate by any means. I really think you can safely assume this is the same baby.

Thank you for the hope..sometimes I feel I've gotten my hopes up too high, but I do think in my heart that this is the same baby..and I hope they will change my due date tomorrow..I have been having way more braxton hicks contractions and way more discharge. I go to the doctor tomorrow at 10am and hopefully they can tell the difference and I'll get the news I want to hear. But either way as long as she is healthy, I will be happy!

Forgive me for not replying sooner. The doctor told me at this point, this far along in my pregnancy it would not make a difference if I had one or not. I disagree though, because I do not want to carry her over term. She is measuring a week ahead, and I have lots of fluid. She is healthy. So i am thankful for that. I will never know if she is the same baby, but I am just thankful to have a daughter on the way. I have PUPP rash and I am praying that they will induce labor for the simple reasons that I do not want a c-section, and I want this rash to go away. I go to the doctor this Tuesday, and I hope they will check if I a dialated, and tell me when I will have her. Doctor said I will probably have her early because of the excess fluid, and I'll be 36 weeks this Wednesday. I have enjoyes this pregnancy so much, I have not and am still now miserable like everyone has told me I will be in the last month. I cannot wait to meet her!

Thank you for the update. I am so sorry to hear you have that rash. I remember how NOT fun that was. I know with my first, they kept their revised dates and by the revised dates, I went into labor a week early but he was an NICU baby and the NICU nurses said he clearly looked quite overdue. Dating is just not an exact science by any means.

Please, keep us updated!
