Drop in hCG told Loosing Bub (9 weeks) UPDATE: MISDIAGNOSED!

Well my story to date. 6+5 days I had some spotting hCG 64,000, u/s showed heart beating at 128bpm. 7+5 spotting (minor) hCG 84,000. 8+2 (Sunday) hCG 100,000 u/s on Monday heart beat 180bpm baby growing to dates (actually one day ahead) Thurs 8+5 hCG 83,000 still got heart beat on doppler and saw bub on a portable u/s. Phone call from Dr that night.

"Your hCG has dropped, this means you will be miscarrying bub, sorry for the news" hang up

Feeling very scared, daunted, blank!

Oh wow, how absolutely awful for you. Did your doctor forget to tell you that anytime after 8 weeks or so your hCG numbers are supposed to plateau and drop. This is normal.

You need a new doctor. You also need to complain about this doctor. If you can, find a new doctor and then if all is well and, really, there is no reason to suspect it is not, make that complaint.

hCG still dropping Sat 77,000 then Tues 67,000.

Been placed under the emergency obstetrics team get reviewed on the 15th July after more bloods and another u/s

Formal u/s done on Tues showed baby is 10 weeks (4 days ahead of my dates) with a nice strong heart beat at 180bpm.

Still told prognosis prob not good

Will know more in 1 week time....long long wait!

Yipeee Finally after two and a half weeks from being told I was miscarrying I saw the specialist today who told me in typical australian good humor to "piss off go home and enjoy my morning sickness"
He said after 8, 9, 10 weeks etc hCG results don't give an accurate indication always of whats happening and if I was miscarrying would have noticed a much greater decrease in my levels by now. He's referred me for the NT testing next week. Had another u/s which showed out 4.3cm bub growing well, strong heart beat and belting the sides of its little sac with its legs obviously trying to make more room for itself.
Feeling very happy and relaxed now and very angry with the hospitals emergency Drs for putting me through his. I am writing a letter of complaint thats for sure!

Hope this story gives someone else out there some hope.

P.S hCG levels for interest sake were around 51,000 (down from total of 100,000 3 weeks ago)and obstitricians not worried so there is hope girls!!!

Phew! I do hope you write that letter. Even if that doctor suspected a possible miscarriage, he should not have written you off as quickly as he did. That was not enough to diagnose miscarriage and he really ought to have known that.

So glad you found a doctor who knew his facts about HCG levels!
Doctors and midwives need to know the proper facts before they scare us witless!

There is nothing better than hearing a happy ending.

It seems like too often dr's give u more anxiety than answers when it comes to pregnancy. I learnt the first time around that if ur not a text book case they really just don't know too much. I think that we women need to trust in our own instincts

Just over 18 weeks today and having our big scan..finding out what we have on board.

Goes to show how wrong they were! Still super anxious but belly growing and bub moving, doesn't stop that niggling fear that maybe they were right and something is wrong.

Hi everyone,
I am new to chatting , but desperate for some advice... By my husband and my dates I should be 10 weeks today. I went for a scan 4 days ago and they told me that I was measuring 5 weeks and 3 days. There was a perfect yolk sack and Foetal pole but no baby. The tech said everything looked fine, to early to see a H/B, my dates were out and I need to see my Doctor. Since then I have had two blood tests for HCG levels where the first was 19000ish and the second (48 hours later) had dropped (my Dr only let a msg on my machine late Fri night and didnt tell me the exact numbers, just said it wasnt good???) I have a history of a missed miscarriage 6 months ago where the baby died between 6 - 8 weeks and we didnt find out till 12 week scan. I have been told previously that I have a "tilted uterus" I have done some research and my questions is this... If my dates are correct could my HCG levels be plateauing or dropping off naturally and could my tilted uterus be hiding the baby???? I am going for another scan with a Ob/Sonographer who is apparantly very good... but I am sooo worried. I dont know if I am clutching at straws or if my scenarios are plausible.

Like the other comments I have read here, my Dr is keen for me to have a D & C, but I want to be certain. By the way, I have had no pain, bleeding, still have sore boobs and still am really trired. There has been nothing physical to suggest a M/C, but there wasn't before either . I am also 39 and have no children... HELP !!!
