Made it to 12 weeks!!

If you've had a miscarriage and have a story of hope (i.e. successful pregnancy or any blessing), we'd love to hear it.

Made it to 12 weeks!!

I am so thrilled to say I am now in my 12th week with pregnancy #6 and it looks like this is going to be the one who makes it! :)8

I had given up hope on ever having a child - I'll be 39 when he/she arrives - but I think we have found the source of my problem, so I wanted to share it in case someone else is in the same circumstance...

We were not even TTC yet as we weren't done all the investigative testing my specialist had planned, but it came up that I have a luteal phase defect and he had me start on progesterone (400 mg/day vag). Thank God I started taking it just in case, as it turned out we conceived somewhere between day 8-10 of that very cycle. I started bleeding at 6 weeks and thought we were losing it but the u/s in ER actually showed a heartbeat! (Only once other pregnancy I've seen a heartbeat!) Had another u/s at 8 weeks and the baby is actually ahead of schedule since we conceived so early in the cycle ;)

They also found I have a urea plasma infection which can cause early miscarriage and can be present in the body for years undetected, so have been treated for that as well.

So...progesterone has saved my baby! Had no idea how far out of kilter my cycles were. I only wish we had found this many m/c ago. Of course I am still very very nervous and will be until I actually deliver (could that be possible!!), but I am feeling hopeful this time.

Thank you so much for your help in getting through my last m/cs.

Congrats Pheobe!

I too found out I had a Luteal Phase defect and started progesterone...and I got pregnant the second month after starting it! I had lost one baby before finding out so I am lucky enough that my Dr. was quick to help me! I am now 31 weeks and I'll be 42 when I deliver.

It IS possible!

Congrats again!!!

LP defect is the time between ovulation and your period. It need to be at 12 days long. Google it and you will find all kinds of info.

In my case the luteal phase was not too short - it was much too long. Instead of ovulating around day 10-14 I was somewhere between day 5-7, i.e. right after my period stopped, and my own progesterone wasn't kicking in, basically things were out of phase.

I'd always wondered why I couldn't seem to get a clear sense of when I was ovulating based on the temperature-tracking method...
