Anyla's Story - HCG Stopped Doubling

Postby Anyla » Tue Oct 06, 2015 5:51 pm

I had read stories on this board for support over the past few weeks and wanted to post my story.

I had a FET on Aug 31. After 14 days post transfer my Hcg was 1300 and at 16days post transfer my Hcg was 2713. I had an early ultrasound as I was on ectopic watch at 5 weeks, 6 days and saw that things were in the right spot and we even saw the flicker of a heart beat.

At approximately 5.5 weeks I started spotting and got some pretty extreme nausea. After a few days the nausea went away and I was getting concerned about the spotting. Sometimes it was bright red, other brown, always intermittent. I could have a spurt and then be fine for a few days. After a few weeks of this spotting, my family doctor asked me to repeat some blood work. At 6 weeks and 5 days my hcg was 77,800. My doctor was thrilled, but insisted on a repeat of the test to ensure doubling. 2 days later the test had only increased to just over 91,000. My doctor told my that my scheduled 8 week ultrasound would show that I had miscarried if I didn't miscarry prior to that. He offered no hope.

On these boards and other websites I researched that levels increase at slower rates depending on the level itself and/or what week you were in. My doctor was so certain though that I was devastated.

I had my 8 week ultrasound today - everything was fine!!!!! Heart rate of 160 and no issues or concerns from my fertility specialist. I just wanted to give some hope to others.

Thank you so much for sharing your story! You are going to help so many women. I just wish doctors would stop with that hCG doubling nonsense. It's been proven wrong time and again.

Congratulations to you! Moving your story to the Misdiagnosed board :)

If you are being diagnosed with a blighted ovum after IVF, please take a look at this article I put together: Misdiagnosed Miscarriage After IVF
and why I just believe a blighted ovum should NOT be diagnosed before nine weeks at the earliest and the UK's new guidelines support this
