dgkane's Story: hCG levels 21,000, only yolk seen ~MISDIAGNOSED

This blog post has been so encouraging to me, and I wanted to share my story. I ovulated on 7/30/14. On August 14, 2014 I got my BFP. I went in for my first u/s at 6 weeks and 3 days (my dates are uncertain due to my irregular cycle). At the appointment my Ob did a trans-vaginal u/s where she could see the gestational sac and yolk sac, but no baby. She said she believed I would miscarry soon and decided to check my hcg levels. My levels were 17,000 that day. 48 hours later my hcg level was 21,000. My doctor confirmed her belief that I would miscarry soon because my levels did not double. She suggested I do a D&C. I told her I prefer to wait for my body to do it naturally. Today, I am 7 weeks and 6 days and have not had any signs or symptoms of miscarriage, so I went to get a second opinion. Hoping for the best but preparing for the worst my husband and I were prepared to see no baby in the u/s. But there he/she was! A heartbeat and a fetal pole! To think that if I had listened to my first doctor I would have gotten rid of my baby makes me sick – so many women likely trust that it is the best choice but it is NOT! Especially not so early on. My new ob still thinks I will lose my baby because his/her heartbeat is slow, and I am measuring at 6 and a half weeks. But I am not giving up hope. I have already had one incorrect doctor, what’s to say this second doctor isn’t also incorrect? I keep my faith in God’s plan for me, and for my baby. :H E> 8)O

Thank you for sharing your story. Keep us updated. It is early and babies do look one to two weeks behind quite a bit. (((hugs))) and prayers!

If you are being diagnosed with a blighted ovum after IVF, please take a look at this article I put together: Misdiagnosed Miscarriage After IVF
and why I just believe a blighted ovum should NOT be diagnosed before nine weeks at the earliest and the UK's new guidelines support this
