Gestational Sac at 6 weeks 6 days only MISDIAGNOSED!

Postby GeninLUV » Fri May 02, 2014 10:01 am

Hello All....I have been reading through this website for many months and it really has been such a comfort. This is the first time i'm posting. In December 2013 I had a miscarriage. When I went in for some spotting at 6 weeks 1 day they did a sonogram and the midwife said "the heart beat is slow". She wasn't discouraged, but I was......8 years ago I had two miscarriages and her words really stuck with me. Needless to say, no one pushed any intervention until about 11 weeks where my hcg had dropped. I couldn't schedule a d & c that day, but the next day I went into natural miscarriage. Unfortunately, it wasn't until a month and a half later that my hcg went lower than 5. I still had a tiny bit of retained tissue, and once that expelled it was finally over.

So I was very surprised to get a positive hpt in April. I went to see a doctor, they took labs and my hcg 658 at 4 weeks 4 days, and then 13826 and progesterone at 15.8 at 5 weeks 4 days At 5 weeks 4 days, the doctor could only see a gestational and yolk sac. I was to see her in two weeks to follow up.

So this past Saturday I had some light brown discharge, only a tiny bit on my underwear. It was kind of thick and sticky. And since then, brown spotting and brown stringy discharge when I wipe. I went in to see a doctor yesterday. She did an abdominal ultrasound and said she could see gestational and yolk sac but nothing else. When she did a vaginal ultrasound, she couldn't see anything (no sac no yolk). Also, when she took out the probe she saw the brown discharge, and she said "It's brown so it's old, it's a good sign". So she sent me for an official sonogram later that day. I went to the place where they have better equipment, and then tech said all she could see was an empty gestational sac measuring 8 weeks. She did this vaginally. She asked if i had bleeding and I told her yes (although I don't know if I should consider brown discharge when i wipe bleeding). She said she was sorry.....but nothing was there. She was very nice, but she basically said that nothing had developed and she should have seen something.

I find it strange that the doctor could see a gestational and yolk sac through abdominal, and then transvaginal the tech could only see a gestational sac.

So at 6 weeks 6 days....what should I think? My boobs are still sore...I do have brown discharge when I wipe (but i really have to wipe sort of hard to see anything). Only gestational sac was showing. My hcg levels were high when then checked last. I believe I'm pregnant and I want to wait a week before I go back. Is there a possibility that something can develop until then?

I thank you all in advance for your responses. I'm 34 years old.....no children....multiple miscarriages....If I do miscarry I'm going to schedule an appointment with a specialist soon.

It is just too early to diagnose. Yes, this may end in miscarriage but we've found that the uterus can change position and make it difficult to view until the baby is large enough to really be seen. (((hugs))) to you. Stay monitored. Hope you get better news.

Sorry for what you are going through. I hope everything turns out well for you. I started having the brown discharge today as well. I had a vaginal u/s on Wed had a little pink yesterday. Called my Dr office they said it's normal. I'm scared as I'm getting a lot of the brown now. Mostly just when I wipe. Probably didn't help we had sex today and it got worse. I'll be paying for you, keep us updated. Sorry for your previous losses.

Just stumbled upon ur post.. I am so sorry for ur loss. I miscarried on April 16 2013. U do feel numb for a few days and there is part of u that will always ache from it. But know u r not alone. Reading on sites like this and knowing that others are going through the exact same thing was so comforting for me. DH, friends and family tried to be supportive but there is nothing like having another woman who knows exactly what you were going through. Thinking of you. Hugs

Thanks Jessica. How long did you bleed for? I'm hoping to get pregnant right away. Went to the Dr today and all the tissue and what not is gone. Bleeding is light but still there

Update: Today I went in for another ultrasound. I am 7 weeks 5 days today. And I was very surprised to see a fetal pole measuring 7 weeks 3 days and a heartbeat!!!!!!!!! At first the doctor had a really shocked look on her face and said....don't be scared, but I see two gestational sacs. Lets do a vaginal ultrasound. So she did one, and she said...okay....there is only one sac, and what I was seeing was a septum in your uterus, basically something that sort of divides it, sort of like a divet. The heartbeat was fast! It wasn't a machine where you could hear the heartbeat, it wasn't an official sonogram. But she said everything looks great and she wants to see me in a week. The fetal pole is measuring 1.21 cm.

What I think happened the first sonogram last week when the tech only saw a gestational sac was that maybe she was visualizing only one part of the uterus, since there is that septum. Maybe she didn't see the side where the baby was. So..........my prayers have been answered thus far. I'm thanking God and all of you for being very supportive. I've had multiple miscarriages in the past so I know how it feels and I think the best advice i've heard is just to relax and let God and your body do it's thing. Also.....as Kay has said....just wait until you are 9 weeks so you really get a sense of what is going on. These little beans are very tiny and its hard to visualize a lot of the time!!!

Yay! I have a bicornuate uterus too. Mine is so slight though that they can't see it via ultrasound. We wouldn't even know about it if I hadn't had C-sections.

I am just so happy for you! I do hope you keep us updated on you. Continued prayers for an uneventful pregnancy :)

Hi All! Quick update....I am 13 1/2 weeks pregnant and everything is right on track and doing well. Heart beat is strong...don't know the gender yet, baby was tumbling all around during the scan. I did have some bleeding again.....sort of a brown bleeding i think around week 8? Very strange....but I guess those things happen. Anyways....just wanted to give an update and let you all know there is hope! Don't base things on one ultrasound...and an early one. You just never know...Good luck!

Hello, I can really use your help. I went in this Wednesday thinking I was eight weeks, last period was 6/11, I ovulated around 6/22, conception around 6/25. Via transvaginal ultrasound I measured at 6 weeks and also have an empty gestational sac. No yolk sac or fetal pole, I was asked to go home prepared for miscarriage naturally and come back within two weeks for one final ultrasound. That would be week eight, I am already on progesterone and have continued to take them one suppository at night 200 mg. Did you take more then this? I am preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.

Right now I am resting, no bleeding or spotting. Sadly I have all the pregnancy symptoms, nausea, tired and sore breast. Any advice would be great!

Hi, I hope you are well. I actually stopped my progesterone when I was told to wait for miscarriage. I don't think you should be taking anything else but just don't give up hope too soon!
